What is social studies about at Palmer???

In Palmer, social studies teaches people about the world and how it evolved to be what it is now. Also, People might ask “why do we need to learn about history and the world?”. We study this subject to stop history from repeating itself. Lastly, by looking at past events, we can prevent or at least handle current situations better and make our world more positive. In conclusion, social studies offers a variety of different ways to learn about how the world was back then until now.

What do the students learn in social studies?
Social studies is where you learn about ancient empires and ruling families. You study topics like history, geography, and how different governments are. You also explore how groups of people live, work, and talk and other do other stuff with each other. furthermore, in class, you learn about First Peoples perspectives and how colonization still affects the world today. In grade 10, students study Canadian history, this has the world wars and other major events. These stuff help you think better about social issues and understand how the past connects us to the present Lastly, by connecting what happened back then to today, you can understand different cultures, societies, and governments.

What do they do in class?
In social studies class, students do lots of creative activities, like acting out skits such as Romeo and Juliet or Joan of Arc. They also do mock trials and take on historical roles like explorers or government leaders to see different points of view in conflicts. Students say there is a lot of reading and writing too. They make presentations using apps like PowerPoint or Canva, and when learning about ancient empires or dynasties, they create timelines to help remember important dates for tests and projects.

What is my comment for the Socials studies subject?

In 8th grade, we spent a month or so on social studies in humanities. I liked it because I always loved history and learning about governments. It made me learn about the past and how everything happened. It made me curious, so I started digging into different historical events and cultures. i wanted to know how they made the world to be what it is now. In addition, I realized the world is super complex, with a lot stories all mixed together. Every little thing that happened in the past matters, and it all makes up to the story of humans. Overall, learning social studies in 8th grade really influenced me. It made me realize how much the past affects us. Every event feels connected. It made me want to keep learning more. Now I’m actually excited to explore history and see how it all adds up to the world we have today.
